Macquarie University is seeking Expressions of Interest from outstanding researchers who wish to apply for an Australian Research Council Future Fellowship to be based at Macquarie University in 2009. The ARC Future Fellowships scheme aims to promote research in areas of critical national importance and in this regard, Macquarie's Research Centres and Concentrations of Research Excellence (CoREs) are ideally placed to provide a rich environment within which Australia's best and brightest will thrive.

The Future Fellowships scheme is expected to significantly boost Australia’s research and innovation capacity in areas of national importance, and preference will be given to those researchers who can demonstrate a capacity to build collaboration across industry, research institutions or with other disciplines.

From 2009-2013, up to 200 new four-year Future Fellowships will be awarded each year to mid-career researchers at two levels to reflect the breadth of experience of candidates - Step 1 $95,000 per annum and Step 2 $135,000 per annum. Mid-career is defined as those who have between five and 15 years experience since the award of PhD, or equivalent research qualification of experience.

Fellows will be offered continuing positions at Macquarie University at the end of the four-year Fellowship term, subject to performance review.

In addition, funding of up to $50,000 per year will be provided to support related infrastructure, equipment, and travel, as well as generous relocation costs and access to scholarship support via Macquarie University's Research Excellence Scholarships.
