Integrated Research Information System (IRIS)
Introduction
The Research Office and Higher Degree Research Office are implementing better systems for tracking, processing and administering the work and workflows relating to all the aspects of research management in the University.
Recent Project News
- June 2007 (effective 12 June) - Researchers are able to view their ‘Projects’ data, some dating back to 1987. The data has been imported from the Research Office’s ‘Promis’ database. There are some new aspects of the ‘Projects’ module, such as the ‘Key Dates’ legend, ‘Project Duration’ and ‘Milestone’ markers, which will appear on screen. These features reflect the imported information and may not always be 100% complete.
- May 2007 - Grants Team trained in Projects Module
- April 2007 - Research Office checking IRIS profile in preparation of RQF trial.
- March 2007 - Verification process and training for Department and Division Administrators commence for 2006 Publications.
- February 2007 - Project (Grants) data transferred to IRIS, in preparation for web access by researchers.
The IRIS Project
University Council has approved a budget for the implementation of a new Integrated Research Management System. This project, known as the IRIS Project, was initiated late in 2005.
A wide range of stakeholders were consulted in late 2005 and early 2006, and all suppliers of research management systems in the Australian marketplace were invited to respond to a Request for Information document. The subsequent evaluation of responses, including multiple system demonstrations and discussions with current users, produced a short list of potential suppliers. The project team, guided by a Purchasing QA Committee, made a recommendation to the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Research) for the purchase of the ResearchMaster Enterprise software package. This software package is widely used in Australian and New Zealand universities and will provide a solid foundation for research management at Macquarie University.
The ResearchMaster product is now being implemented by the IRIS project team over the remainder of 2006, with roll-out of some facilities continuing into 2007. The team has worked closely with the software supplier to develop a robust and achievable plan that maximises our investment in the ResearchMaster product, whilst allowing sufficient time to properly address change management tasks.
