IRIS Project Governance
Organisational Structure
In May of 2006 the IRIS project team was formally mobilised, being staffed with full-time secondees from the Research Office, the Higher Degree Research Office and from a Division. This followed the appointment of a full-time project manager in mid-March.
The IRIS project will be guided and monitored by a Steering Group on behalf of the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Research). This group now meets monthly. In addition a Reference Group will be formed of high level stakeholders to provide oversight and guidance to the project team from a broader university perspective.

Textual Description of Project Organisational Chart
The Steering Group have approved four key documents:
- Project Initiation Document – detailing how the project will be managed
- Project Scope – documenting what the project will deliver by January 2007
- High Level Schedule – showing the timing of major project deliverables
- Communications plan - identifying all stakeholders and communication channels
Processes are in place to manage risks, issues and project commitments.
Project Objectives
The IRIS project has been tasked with the following five objectives:
- Implement a new, university-wide, integrated research information system
- Address the university’s data administration and management needs in the 21st Century
- Provide a web-based user friendly system to improve processes and reduce duplication of data entry
- Improved support for researchers spanning publications data, applications and project management
- To be ready for RQF.
Constraints
The project budget provides funding for the IRIS team from May 2006 through to December 2006 fully staffed, and through to December 2007 for a core team. This resourcing level, along with allowing sufficient time for consultation and change management activities, will determine the pace at whese objectives will be achieved. The project team are dependent upon the software supplier for many key aspects of systems functioanlity, and upon IT Systems for the operational platform, installation activities and for certain aspects of systems and security administration.
